WELCOME TO OUR SCHOOL

Dear Readers

Welcome to the Lochee Primary School website. I hope you enjoy your visit and learn a little about the school. My name is Ian Cannon. I have been the Head Teacher at Lochee Primary School since 1987. During this period I have seen many changes-changes of curriculum, of expectations, of staff and much has altered in this area of Dundee. Recent years have seen the depopulation of parts of the city and the decline in manufacturing industry. But these are exciting times. New housing is springing up on once vacant sites and the nearby Technology Park, Teaching Hospital and University are creating employment in 21st century industries.

Schools have to adapt to 21st century needs, knowledge and skills. The primary school curriculum is becoming more child-centered and focused on the needs of the learner. Dundee is at the forefront of this initiative and "Learning and Teaching in Dundee", the title of our drive for creating life-long learners, will be a major development in Lochee Primary School over the coming years. Schools are tasked with putting into practice the requirements of the National Priorities. These National Priorities require schools to lead children towards a life that is literate, numerate, knowledgeable, multi-skilled, enterprising, healthy and hopefully happy and confident.

The staff are tasked with a partnership with our pupils, their parents and the local community. The parents of Lochee pupils have always been most supportive, some of whom have helped over long periods giving time, energy, skills, and care to enhance the experiences of our children.

I look forward to seeing many more ex-pupils visit to tell staff of their success in this ever-changing world. The technology which brings this website to you did not exist in schools ten years ago. We are living in times of technological development and children will be citizens of a world of wrap-around technology. The school and staff constantly seek to improve the opportunities for our pupils by adapting to change.

Some aspects of school life remain more constant. School uniform, good manners, and respect for people and property are the anchors of our code of conduct - The School Charter.

I am proud of my association with the parents, staff and children of Lochee Primary School and intend to see the school go on to achieve the goal stated above.
